I really wanted to like this board!!

I’ve had the following toolboard installed on my printer for about a week. The main issue with this board is that it does not handle an enclosed chamber very well. It frequently loses connection, and I constantly experience connection issues during prints. In the time I’ve had it installed, I’ve only been able to complete one print (a major headache). My previous setup had 900+ hours with no issues asides from user error or klipper errors.

On the positive side, the board is very easy to set up and get running, and it pairs well with the whole Orbiter ecosystem. However, I would strongly suggest that anyone considering this board wait until they release a new version, as it is plagued with many issues.

Works very well even in heated enclosure

I have been using this usb toolhead for about 1 month. I purchased it from my local supplier not here but they do not have a review section. So if is OK I would like to review it here.
It's been working flawlessly in my heated chamber Voron at 60 C. I did install a small cooling fan which prevents the toolhead from overheating restricting its temperature to about 80C at most. I use it with the orbiter v2 and its smart filament sensor. All work brilliantly together.

Poor Customer Service

I received a faulty Orbitool board and called for a replacement and was told to email them with the issue. I had to call back because I was never contacted through email. They finally read email and responded with one question in which I replied immediately with no response. Still haven’t received any response for a replacement board. The PCF immediately comes on when the printer is powered on which is not normal. I will never purchase another item from West 3D due to poor customer service.

Hello,

I apologize for your experience - the communication gap is not typical of West3D, nor is poor service. That's not the target we set for ourselves. In this case I have spoken with the service agent to see how we can avoid gaps like this occuring in the future.

We also do replace faulty products, and I'm making sure that replacement is issued in case our staff have not gotten back to you. Sometimes there is a delay (but it should never be more than a day or two, if it's more than two days we likely messed up) if we are troubleshooting with our supplier (e.g. LDO). If you ever again have an issue with a response on email we also have telephone (503 770 0035) and our discord server (invite link on the website).

Sorry again for the inconveniences you faced, this is certainly not a typical West3D experience.

Description

You asked, and it's here! A PCB optimized for Orbiter featuring the orbiter sensor, accelerometer for input shaping, a TMC2209 stepper driver all with USB communication - it's kind of nice.

Should a tool-board magic smoke come out because of user error? Why?

Should a tool-board be destroyed by a fault in your 3D printer? Why?

The answer is NO! And this is what this tool-board is all about!

We are hobbyists, and let’s face it, we do mistakes, and when the magic smoke shows up everybody is disappointed, even if we know it’s a user fault. In this board, I promise you the magic smoke is kept inside extremely tight!

Some of the main features:

• Optimized for Orbiter v2 and SO3 shape and features including orbiter sensor

• STM32F042 microcontroller running on 48MHz
