Hello!
I want to reach out about an issue we discovered today with the batch 2 version of the filament toaster. We are still investigating the cause and if it's an actual problem with ongoing operation. I will report that information back when it's discovered. For now you should discontinue use.
We marketed a product with a very strict set of expectations, Batch 1 met those expectations, Batch 2 has an issue we are investigating. This message is to make sure no one has a bad time with this product.
Users have experienced, particularly at high temperatures excess smoke from the machine, above normal "burn off" smoke. Some amount of smoke is completely normal for any toaster, as oils and such from the manufacturing process need to burn off. Typically, after 20-60 minutes this period is over and you safely use our toaster. What we've found is excess smoke in that interval, above what I'd want in a living space. It looks upon our cursory inspection that the coating around the diffuser that covers the heating elements may be the cause. While we don't yet know the cause with 100% certainty (that is being investigated with the manufacturer) with an abundance of caution we are going to recall this batch.
Proper use requires and we strongly recommend being around your toaster (and any actively heated product) while in use. At the very least for the initial heating session and burn off to ensure proper and safe operation going forward.
This said, we are going to offer a recall for this batch. We will be offering a full refund of the toaster with return label and a $25 store credit to every Batch 2 order. Expect that to be processed within the next 48 hours.
Best,
Daniel
